The 15-volume “Chronicles of Colonialism,” authored by Mehdi Mirkeiani and originally published by Sureh Mehr Publishing, has been translated into English in 12 volumes by Nakhl-e Sabz. Mirkeiani, a university professor of history, aims to fill a gap in young adult literature by narrating the origins and expansion of colonialism across various world regions from the 15th to the 20th century, covering Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Several volumes focus on Iranian resistance against colonialism. The work distinguishes itself by tracing the historical trajectory and stages of colonial development.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in a meeting with elites, remarked on the series: “I recently saw a book written by one of our own authors — whom I do not know personally — titled ‘Chronicles of Colonialism.’ It consists of fifteen or sixteen volumes of 120–150 pages each, explaining how colonialism in the Americas and Asia seized the wealth of those lands and enriched itself. England, France, and European countries were not originally wealthy; they took the wealth of others. They achieved this through weapons, creative minds, great effort, and a willingness to take risks — admirable traits — but what benefit did they derive? The establishment of a global hegemony system. Hegemony is one of the great afflictions of today’s world, which has not yet ended but God willing will. Hegemony means dividing the world into dominators and the dominated; a few must rule the entire world powerfully, while other nations must obey under various guises. This hegemony was produced by Europe’s scientific progress, and it cannot be described with a single value-laden term.”
